Our Lady in May – Stratherrick

Saturday 14th May dawned brightly – a perfect day for the Deanery Devotional Day to Our Lady in May, enhanced, as always, by the wonderful scenery at Stratherrick.

The pilgrims gathered between 10.00 and 10.30am for tea / coffee and biscuits, after which the day commenced in the church with Marian hymns, readings and prayers.

The address was given by Fr. James Bell and we had 4 readings which were split between the morning prayer session and the afternoon.  Each looked at the relationship of one of the Evangelists, and their Gospel accounts in relation to Mary.  We were blessed with the presence of four young boys from the deanery who took a reading each, speaking with great confidence and clarity.

Exposition with opportunity for Confession or Consultation was followed by the Regina Caeli at 12.00pm.  We then partook of a Rosary Walk (Joyful Mysteries) to the Shrine of Our Lady – serenaded by a cuckoo!

A wonderful lunch was provided by Therese, supplemented by offerings from some of the pilgrims.

The afternoon devotions commenced with Exposition and Meditation / Contemplation, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3.00pm, and Benediction.  Holy Mass was celebrated at 4.00 by Fr. Andrzej Harden SJ, with a heartfelt and engaging homily by Fr, Domenico Zanre.

Tea / Coffee and cakes provided sustenance for the journey home.

A wonderful day – many thanks to all!
