Bambinelli Sunday! – 15 December: Bring in your Baby Jesus figures and Fr Domenico will bless them at both the Saturday Vigil and the Sunday morning Masses.
The Children’s Christingle Service – Sunday 15 December. Children to arrive at the church hall at 2.30pm for a practice and to assemble the oranges for the service at 4pm.
Adoration Evenings: there will be an Adoration Evening this Tuesday 10 November from 7pm – 8pm.
Men’s Rosary Group: There will be no Men’s Rosary for the remainder of December. It will resume in January.
Christmas Flowers – we are blessed with generous and talented parishioners, who provide us with beautiful flowers throughout the year. Day of Recollection at Stratherrick on Saturday 7 December, 10.00am – 3.35pm: a day of prayer and reflection will take place in the church of the Immaculate Conception, Stratherrick. It will include: two talks, Mass, opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and the Holy Rosary. Lunch will be provided.
Deanery Advent Talks: Each Wednesday evening, over three weeks of Advent, various members of the Deanery clergy will offer talks on different perspectives of the Advent season, or on the feast of the day. Starting at 6.00pm and concluding with Tea and Coffee at 7.30pm, each session will consist of Exposition / Confessions, Reflection talk, Night Prayer, Benediction and Reposition. The first talk will be on Wednesday 4 December at St. Columba’s Culloden, delivered by Deacon Aidan Matheson.
15 December: Bambinelli Sunday! – Each year on Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, children in Rome bring their Baby Jesus figures from the cribs in their homes to St. Peter’s Square where the Pope blesses both them and the figurines during the Angelus. Fr Domenico will bless all ‘Bambinelli’ at the Sunday Mass. Don’t forget to take them with you!

The volunteer positions at The Highland Foodbank have now been filled. They thank us for the kind and generous donations this Harvest, 47kg was donated. Their poster for items most needed during November/December 2024 is at the back of church They recently released their Reverse Advent Calendar – Different items have been suggested for each day throughout November including festive treats as well as necessities, enabling them to make up and deliver much needed Parcels in time for Christmas. If you can help, there are lists available at the back of Church. Please bring your Calendar donations into the hall Saturday 30 November / Sunday 1 December.
On the first Sunday of Advent, 1 December 2024, the new Lectionary for Mass will come into force. The current people’s missals will no longer be usable. An order has now been placed with CTS, to purchase the Missals requested on the list at the back of the church. There will be some extra copies, in case some folk have forgotten to put down their names. November: Month of the Holy Souls – November is the month when we remember our dearly departed. If you would like to have any deceased relatives or friends remembered at Mass during November, please place their names in the envelopes provided and hand in to the Sacristy. All names will be placed in front of the altar, and a selection read out at every mass.

Rome Jubilee for Youth 28 July-6 August. All 16-35 year olds are invited to join a pilgrimage to Rome with young people from all around the world. We’ll visit the Holy Doors, attend a Vigil with the Holy Father, and travel to Assisi. Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible, an eight-part Bible study, helps you uncover the story woven throughout Scripture, so you can get the “big picture” of the Bible and understand what it’s all about. It will help you pick up the Bible with confidence and understand how you fit into God’s plan. All welcome.
FREE copies of the Consecration to St Joseph: A number of free copies of Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father, by Fr. Donald Calloway, are available for anyone interested. The Holy Father encourages us to consecrate ourselves to St Joseph, who in turn will give those consecrated to him his undivided attention, protection and guidance. If interested, please speak to Fr. Our Children’s Liturgy is back! – Now that the Summer holidays have ended, our Sunday morning children’s liturgy has returned. Please do support this, and encourage any of your children (or grand-children) to consider joining the merry band of youngsters, as they learn the Gospel stories and grow in their faith.

Today’s Second Collection: Stella Maris –Today is Sea Sunday, when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Without them, we would not have most of the items we buy in the shops. Today’s second collection is for Stella Maris (Apostleship of the Sea), the Church’s official maritime welfare agency. It supports seafarers both practically and spiritually. This annual collection is vital to enable it to continue its work, so please give generously and remember seafarers in your prayers. Thank you. Excavation works begin this week: we will begin digging inspection pits in the car park, at the base of the Sacristy walls, to try and identify the source of the structural cracking in the Sacristy, which runs across the ceiling and into the wall of the church. During the period of excavations, the car park will be off limits to parishioners’ vehicles – for your own safety, and for the protection of your cars. We would kindly ask you to park in the neighbouring streets until the initial excavation work is completed. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
TODAY, 30 June: Diocesan Pilgrimage and Family Day at Pluscarden Abbey – Bishop Hugh is extending an invitation to ALL parishioners to attend this annual diocesan event together. There will be opportunities to relax in the grounds of the Abbey, with a chance to meet people from other parishes. Parishioners are encouraged to bring their own picnics; however, refreshments will also be available from 12 pm in the refreshments tent. The focus for the pilgrimage will be on the ministry of Readers, who will be most welcome to attend:
1.00pm – Exposition in the Lady Chapel until 2.30pm; 1.00pm – Individual confessions in the parlours at St. Benedict’s Retreat until 2.30pm;
3.00pm – Mass of the day, followed by a Marian procession to the garden facing St. Benedict’s Retreat.

Excavation works in the car park: we will soon begin digging inspection pits at the base of the Sacristy walls, to try and identify the source of the structural cracking in the Sacristy, which runs across the ceiling and into the wall of the church. During the period of excavations, the car park will be off limits to parishioners’ vehicles – for your own safety, and for the protection of your cars. We would kindly ask you to park in the neighbouring streets until the initial excavation work is completed. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Next Sunday, 30 June: Diocesan Pilgrimage and Family Day at Pluscarden Abbey – Bishop Hugh is extending an invitation to ALL parishioners to attend this annual diocesan event together. There will be opportunities to relax in the grounds of the Abbey, with a chance to meet people from other parishes. Parishioners are encouraged to bring their own picnics; however, refreshments will also be available from 12 pm in the refreshments tent. The focus for the pilgrimage will be on the ministry of Readers, who will be most welcome to attend: 1.00pm – Exposition in the Lady Chapel until 2.30pm; 1.00pm – Individual confessions in the parlours at St. Benedict’s Retreat until 2.30pm; 3.00pm – Mass of the day, followed by a Marian procession to the garden facing St. Benedict’s Retreat.

Care for the Family is a registered charity and has been working to strengthen family life since 1988. Working through the UK and the Isle of Man, they provide parenting, relationship and bereavement support through events, courses, training and volunteer networks. Christian compassion is at the heart of everything they do though they offer resources and support to everyone of any faith or none. They can also offer Bereavement care Awareness courses for churches. This is designed to help churches better understand how grief affects people and discover advice and practical ways of supporting bereaved people in the community. Congratulations to Deacon Aidan! – one of our students for the Priesthood – Aidan Matheson from Elgin – was ordained a Deacon by Bishop Joseph Toal, in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome, on Saturday 13 April. Please pray for Deacon Aidan; for our other three seminarians: Anh, René, and Richard; and for those men who are currently discerning a vocation to the Priesthood.

Parish Lenten Day of Recollection, Saturday 23 March: ‘Behold the Lamb of God’ – the idea of Jesus as the Lamb of God runs throughout the Bible like a golden thread, from Genesis to the Book of Revelation. Join us as we walk through the Old and New Testaments, and consider some of the most famous religious representations in western art, to investigate the central importance of this theme, not only in Holy Scripture, but in our Sacred Liturgy. The Day of Recollection includes two talks, with time for personal reflection and discussion, together with Devotions, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, opportunities for Confession, and Benediction.

Second Collection Today for SPUC White Flower Appeal – this year’s appeal, organised by the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, calls for the UK Government to end its pills-by-post DIY abortion policy. As well as ending the lives of precious babies, this policy lacks safeguards against illegal late-term abortions, and puts mothers at physical and psychological risk. 86% of GPs are concerned about coercive abortion taking place via telemedicine and pills by post. The policy is impossible to regulate, and has proved
open to abuse. Please support today’s second collection for the work of SPUC, and fill in one of the cards on the table.
Health and Safety Rep: can you help?! – The parish is in great need of a Health and Safety rep. Duties include regular inspections of fire extinguishers and electrical appliances, and first aid kits. Full training will be given. If you can help, please speak to Fr. Domenico.

Second Collection Today for Mary’s Meals: ‘Double the Love’ Appeal – from now until 22 January, any donations made to Mary’s Meals will be doubled by a group of generous donors, up to £1 million. A donation of just £19.15 can feed a child every day for an entire school year. Because your gift will be matched by our benefactors, the same donation will feed a second child, too! Please note that there will be a Second Collection this weekend (13/14 January) for Mary’s Meals.

Catholic Marriage Counselling Service – The RC Diocese of Aberdeen now offers a Marriage Counselling Service for Catholic couples in need of Couples Counselling. The Service offers a supportive unbiased and non-judgemental space that enables couples to identify and resolve their interpersonal issues and disagreements, while building on the strengths of their relationship. Genesis to Jesus – The Ogilvie Centre would like to invite you to discover the riches of sacred scripture through an online zoom course called Genesis to Jesus. Presented by other members from our Diocese and over the course of 7 weeks, in which by the end you will be able to locate your place in salvation history. This is part of a wider programme, starting in January 2024 that will see us bring more of the St Paul Center archive of material, which they kindly have given us to use for free, to our Diocese. We have sessions starting on Monday 15 January (Evening or Afternoon) and Tuesday 16 January (Evening only). St Mary’s Burns Lunch, 25 January – the parish is organising a Burns Lunch in the Hall on Thursday 25 January. Ticket numbers will be limited, and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Parishioners and non-parishioners alike are welcome. The ticket price is £8.00, and there will in addition be a collection at the end for two Charities, Mary’s Meals, and Nairn Bonus Club, which provides activities for young adults with learning disabilities in Nairn and surrounding district. The lunch will be in traditional form with two
courses prepared by Chris Grant, son of our parishioner Sandy, who is chef at the renowned Grant Arms Hotel. The haggis will be piped in by Thomas, addressed by Iain, and following the lunch there will be recitations and songs to celebrate the life of Burns. To reserve your ticket please speak to Sandy or Maria, and non-parishioners can call Iain on 07715 286067.
Friday 26 January at 7.00pm: Adoration and Faith Sharing Group – Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the church from 7.00pm onwards, followed by Scripture reading and sharing together in the hall. We will also spend a short time at the end of the evening in prayer for Parish intentions for each other, as well as for Nairn itself, and for those who do not walk with God at this time.
