Highland Foodbank provides emergency food and support to people experiencing hardship across the Highlands. Operated by New Start Highland and part of the Trussell community of foodbanks, we work with local churches, community groups and referral agencies to ensure people facing crisis can access practical support with dignity.

The Nairn Foodbank Centre operates from St Mary’s Church Hall and is one of five Highland Foodbank centres, alongside Inverness, Dingwall, Alness & Invergordon, and Tain. Together, these centres support individuals and families across the Highlands who are experiencing financial hardship or food insecurity.
Highland Foodbank works in partnership with a wide range of referral agencies, including Citizens Advice, health professionals, social workers, schools, housing providers and other support organisations. These agencies help identify people in crisis and provide referrals for emergency food support.

The foodbank relies on the generosity of local people, churches, schools, businesses and community groups. Donations of long-life food, toiletries and household essentials are welcomed throughout the year and help ensure support is available when it is needed most.

Most Needed Items
Our most-needed items change throughout the year depending on stock levels and demand. Current shortages and appeals can be found on the Highland Foodbank website or by contacting the foodbank directly.

How Highland Foodbank Works
Step 1 – Food and essential items are donated by the public, schools, churches, businesses and community groups.
Step 2 – Donations are sorted by volunteers and stored at our central warehouse in Inverness.
Step 3 – Referral agencies identify people experiencing hardship and provide access to foodbank support.
Step 4 – Clients collect an emergency food parcel from one of our foodbank centres or, in exceptional circumstances, receive support through an Emergency Food Box.
Step 5 – The foodbank works alongside referral agencies and support services to help address the underlying causes of financial hardship and connect clients with further support where appropriate.
